On 15 June, important progress was made in the construction of the Monastery of Santa Cruz in the city of La Laguna (Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Spain). This is the placement of the formwork of one of the two pillars of the new building located in the garden of the Monastery. The same formwork will be used for the two pillars. This formwork is divided into two (as can be seen in the main image) in order to be able to work on the reinforcement – placing the irons inside the formwork – which will be later, once the two parts of the formwork have been joined, covered with concrete.
In this new building we have been working continuously since the beginning, although apparently no spectacular progress was seen as is the case of the formwork, which by its dimensions impresses quite a lot. As proof of the qualified team that is building the building it is worth saying that the work has won in the category of technical waterproofing a national prize.
We share below the two comments published by José Carlos Marrero in his blog El Cotarro, which also publishes the newspaper El Día, from Tenerife. José Carlos was a student at Cross College, which administered our Institution on the monastery premises.
“LAGUNERA WORK OF THE IDENTE FOUNDATION”
I end with positive news from the Idente Foundation for Studies and Research (idente.org). Where the pioneering and remembered Cross College was, in the Lagunera´s Cathedral Street, the Idente Foundation is constructing a building that will surely be architecturally emblematic, to house a center and residence for studies and research, where young people from many parts of the world will come to be trained.
The project is the work of the prestigious Tenerife architect Germán J. Delgado Pérez with Gabriel Córdoba Rodríguez as collaborating architect, who is also a member of the Foundation. The team is completed with Benjamín Cova (structure calculation), Luis Barber (consulting engineer), Pedro Rodríguez Peña (technical engineer) Ana María Delgado Navarro and Yanira Pérez López (technical architects), Isabel Nichaldas Nazco (technical architect) and José Manuel Alonso (execution director), being HEB ArecoCanarias the construction company.
COLUMNS OF STUDIES AND RESEARCH
There are projects, such as this one by Germán Delgado, that are destined to be emblematic, awarded, and the object of admiration and visit, and I believe that this is going to be one of them. Its unique façade will be presided over by two impressive reinforced concrete columns almost 9 metres high, with a splendid capital on top.
A spectacular operation last Saturday served to superbly raise the formwork of almost 10 tons, made entirely in Tenerife by the company Estructuras Malacay led by Andres Amaro Delgado. The formwork will withstand the pressure of 17 cubic meters of concrete and almost 45.ooo kilos of weight. Two solid columns of the Idente Foundation, to promote research and study from La Laguna. May it be for good.”
