On December 20, the closing ceremony was held for the “San Miguelito” School of Music and Sports, which has been part of the Monastic City since March. It serves children and young people from 7 to 18 years of age from the nearby communities of San Javierito and San Juancito.
The children and young people with great enthusiasm prepared three times a week showing great progress in their violin and guitar lessons. In the area of sports, two categories were formed: from 12 to 14 years old and from 15 to 18 years old.
About one hundred people gathered for the closing ceremony, including children, young people and guests from the different rural communities; the religious leaders of San Juancito, San Javierito, Ascensión, Santa Rosita, El Carmen and San Antonio; as well as members of the Idente Youth of San Ignacio and some parents.
Enthusiasm and joy marked this great day. At the beginning we were able to share a Christmas lunch with the children, teachers and workers, where we perceived a greater friendship, generosity and commitment to the work we do. This year it has been very useful to strengthen some of our activities, and to integrate young people and children from the different communities.
After lunch we continued with a championship with the soccer teams of San Miguelito and an invited soccer academy of San Ignacio. The players from San Miguelito triumphed.
The day ended with a solemn Mass accompanied by the altar boys of the San Miguelito school and some community leaders, followed by a great Christmas concert prepared by the teachers and children, where they demonstrated their talent for instruments and singing, reaching all the melodies in our hearts.
It remains for now to wait until next year to be able to continue this mission with great enthusiasm, dreaming that soon we will have more suitable transport (minibus) so that more children (and families) from more distant rural communities can also participate in the various activities of our Monastic City.
