Silvia González Pérez, Idente missionary and teacher of the Biological and Biomedical Area of the Universidad Técnica Particular de Loja (UTPL) in Ecuador, has been recognized by the 2018 Awards of the Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World – OWSD as one of the five best scientists from developing countries. “The objective of science is the search for knowledge. Science is the best way to seek the truth, and for me the truth is God,” Silvia would say.
The official award ceremony was held on February 17, 2018 in Texas, United States. In the award event Silvia mentioned the passions that move her life: her family, chemistry and God. She dedicated the award to the community of women and men Idente missionaries, and to the friends who have supported her; as well as the Technical University of Loja, which is committed to the development of the youth of Loja and the entire country.
Silvia has a PhD in Quantum Chemistry and Computational Methods, and has dedicated her professional career to higher education in chemistry and physics; she focuses her research on catalysis and molecular modeling of new potential substances, that can be synthesized or purified through natural products.
