A group of students from the school “La Victoria” visited the mayor of the city of Ibarra – Ecuador a few days ago to request sports courts in the new school that is being built.
The mayor received the delegation of students (children of 10, 11 and 14 years old) and his rector, Pilar Morales, idente missionary, with much openness and surprise. The students manifested their friendship and the list of petitions with innocence, among them they asked for a sports court for the school. It was a simple but profound dialogue.
Martín, 10 years old, challenged the mayor of Ibarra to play a game of basketball in the old courts, since the mayor is a great basketball player; the marvelous thing is that Martín persuaded him for the match because he asked him technical questions from his spontaneity, and the mayor accepted the invitation. During the visit, the mayor’s face changed; He was very happy talking with the children, in short, they offered him a different day. At the end of the conversation, Isabela gifted him a plant and told him that “she was gifting it because he had a heart of gold.” The mayor told them to prepare, that he wants to make a good match.
This commitment led Martin to find among his friends the best athletes. The expected day arrived, with the punctuality of the case, the players showed up and the match was played, with the joy of the children present there and the simplicity of the mayor. Martín feels a student committed with the Institution, with the conviction that the heart of the mayor was conquered to start a very good work in his school, which lacks sports fields.
At the end of the game, the mayor who came with 20 people who accompanied him, proceeded to observe the space where they can build the courts and confirmed his offer to the children. With innocence and spontaneity great things are achieved.
